Privacy Policy
How Translate With Voice handles your information.
Who we are
Translate With Voice is operated by Translate With Voice Technologies Ltd. Translate With Voice Technologies Ltd is responsible for the processing of personal information described in this Privacy Policy.
Information we process
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- text you type or paste for translation;
- audio recorded when you choose to use voice input;
- the text produced by speech transcription;
- the translated text produced for you;
- the source and target languages you select;
- session-based Conversation Mode content;
- Saved and Learn information, which is held in your own browser or device storage;
- basic technical information necessarily processed to deliver and secure the web application.
We do not operate user accounts, and we do not collect names, home addresses, payment information, advertising or marketing profiles, precise location data, or permanent translation or conversation history.
Why we use information
We use information to:
- provide text translation;
- convert spoken audio into text;
- translate speech;
- generate spoken translations;
- operate turn-based Conversation Mode;
- provide the current Save and Learn functionality where applicable;
- maintain technical reliability and security;
- detect or prevent misuse where necessary.
We do not use your information for marketing, advertising or profiling purposes.
Our lawful basis for processing
Where you actively ask us to translate text, transcribe speech or generate spoken output, that processing is necessary to provide the service you have requested, which may involve performance of the service or contract between us.
Where we process information to keep the service reliable and secure, or to prevent abuse, we may rely on our legitimate interests. Where the law requires us to process information, we rely on legal obligation.
Granting microphone permission in your browser or device controls access to your microphone. It is a device permission and is not by itself the same thing as consent as a lawful basis under UK data protection law.
Voice input
Microphone access is controlled by your browser or device. Recording only begins after you interact with the microphone control and the browser permission has been granted, and only while you are actively using that feature.
When you use voice input, your recorded speech is sent through our secure server-side transcription flow so it can be converted into text for translation.
You can revoke microphone access at any time through your browser or device permission settings. Translate With Voice does not have permanent microphone access.
Translation processing
When you type or paste text to translate, that text is sent through our secure server-side application flow to the AI infrastructure required to generate your translation. Your text is not sent directly from your browser to any AI provider — requests pass through our server, where any secret credentials remain. Secret AI credentials are never included in the browser application.
Third-party AI providers
Translate With Voice uses third-party AI and technical infrastructure providers to provide translation, speech transcription and generated voice functionality. Information may be processed by those providers as necessary to provide and secure their services, comply with applicable law and prevent misuse.
Our current AI integration uses OpenAI, and it is called only from our server-side application flow. OpenAI states that its API and business offerings do not use API inputs and outputs to train its models by default unless a customer explicitly opts in.
AI-generated voice
When you use the Listen feature, the translated text may be converted into spoken audio using an AI-generated voice. That audio may be cached temporarily during your current session so it can be replayed. We do not intentionally build a permanent personal audio library from generated speech.
Conversation Mode
Conversation Mode is turn-based. Each turn may involve recording, transcription, translation and generated speech. The current conversation state is session-based, and starting a New Conversation clears it. Conversation Mode is not permanent conversation history.
Audio storage
Translate With Voice does not intentionally maintain user voice recordings as a permanent recording library. Voice audio is processed in order to perform the requested transcription.
Third-party infrastructure providers involved in delivering the service may operate their own security, abuse-monitoring and limited retention processes.
Saved and learning data
Accounts are not connected. Saved translations and Learn information are stored locally in your browser or device storage and are not synchronised to a cloud account. Clearing your browser or device storage may remove that locally stored information.
How long we keep information
- Conversation Mode: session-based, and cleared when the conversation or session is reset or ended.
- Voice recordings: not intentionally maintained by the Translate With Voice application as a permanent recording library.
- Generated speech: may be cached temporarily during the active session.
- Saved and Learn data: may remain in your device or browser storage until you delete it or clear browser storage.
- Service-provider processing: may be subject to those providers' separate security and retention processes.
Who we share information with
Information may be shared only with:
- AI service providers used to deliver the requested features;
- cloud and hosting infrastructure providers;
- technical providers needed to operate and secure the service;
- professional advisers where necessary;
- regulators, courts or authorities where legally required.
We do not share information with advertising networks, data brokers or marketing partners.
International processing
Some of the service providers involved in delivering translation, transcription and generated voice may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, appropriate transfer mechanisms should be used.
Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis involved, you may have rights including:
- access to information we hold about you;
- correction of inaccurate information;
- deletion in certain circumstances;
- restriction of processing in certain circumstances;
- objection to certain processing;
- data portability where it applies;
- withdrawal of consent where processing genuinely relies on consent.
Not every right applies to every processing activity. Because the app has no user accounts, information stored locally on your device is often controlled directly through your browser or device settings rather than through us.
Your right to object
Where we process information on the basis of our legitimate interests, you have the right to object to that processing. To do so, contact us at privacy@translatewithvoice.com.
AI and automated processing
Transcriptions, translations and generated speech are produced automatically by AI systems. The service is not designed to make legal or similarly significant decisions about you.
Important and sensitive translations
AI systems can make mistakes. Where accuracy could materially affect health, safety, legal rights, emergency response or significant financial matters, please independently verify the translation with an appropriately qualified person before relying on it.
Please do not submit passwords, authentication credentials or other information you would not want processed through an online translation service.
Microphone permissions
You can disable or re-enable microphone access at any time using your browser or device permission settings. Translate With Voice does not control those settings for you.
Children
The current service is a general-purpose translation tool and is not specifically designed as a children's account platform.
